Teacher Exchange Program Orientation, Washington DCAnnamária Sas, U.S. Program Officer participated in the Teacher Exchange Program Orientation in Washington, DC and met with Tom Healy, Chairman of the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board and Embassy of Hungary diplomats.

Besides meeting with current U.S. and Hungarian grantees, she also visited 3 Fulbright alumni: Ryan Smith (’12 ELTE Apáczai Csere János High School and Teacher Training Center, Budapest); Chris Jones (’11 Budapest University of Technology and Economics), currently Rice University Fellow at the Executive Office of the President, Office of Science & Technology Policy and Eric Lopez (’08 Central European University, Budapest) and his fiancée.

Timothy Jull on Carpathian GlaciersTimothy Jull (’12 Hungarian Academy of Sciences) researches on the glaciers of the Carpathian mountains was featured in Magyar Nemzet, the 2nd largest Hungarian daily. Pictured with Mihály Molnár (’07 University of Arizona) who visited the laboratory led by Professor Jull in Tucson as a Fulbright researcher and felt it natural that they should continue close collaboration. The British-born scientist was one of the winners of the Invitation 13 competition conducted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and thus could continue his work at HAS‘s Institute for Nuclear Research (ATOMKI) in Debrecen.

Smithsonian Folklife FestivalThis year Hungary will be the guest country at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington D.C., June 26-30 and July 3-7, 2013. The Hungarian Heritage: Roots to Revival program curated by Ágnes Fülemile (’92 UC Berkeley; Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY & ’98 Rutgers University) director, Hungarian Cultural Center, New York will feature on the National Mall more than 100 participating performers from Hungary.
