Budapest Jewish Quarter visitThe Commission organized a guided tour to the Jewish Quarter of Budapest for U.S. Fulbright grantees on November 8, 2013. The group took a walking tour along Király street and Gozsdu Courtyard, visited the Great Synagogue in Dohány street and the Kazinczy street Orthodox Synagogue. Then had lunch in Carmel Kosher Restaurant. The day concluded with a guided tour of the Holocaust Memorial Center.

IIE Open Doors Report 2013The number of Hungarians studying in the U.S. increased last year by 5% to 690 students according to the annual Open Doors report of the Institute of International Education. The number of international students enrolled in U.S. higher education increased by 7% to 819,644 students in 2012/13 academic year. There are now 40 percent more international students studying at U.S. colleges and universities than a decade ago, and the rate of increase has risen steadily for the past three years.

In the 2011/12 academic year, 283,332 American students studied abroad (Hungary: 682) for academic credit, an increase of 3 percent. The United Kingdom remains the leading destination for American students, followed by Italy, Spain, France and China. Study abroad by American students has more than tripled over the past two decades, from only about 71,000 students in 1991/92.

Ms. Jamie Hoversen, Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) will give an informational seminar on the graduate application process to US higher education institutions. She will focus specifically on masters and PhD studies.

Ms. Abby Degge will be presenting on her own experiences as a University of Pennsylvania master’s degree graduate. The Graduate Application Guide will be followed by a presentation on the Fulbright Scholarship.
