U.S. Student Grantees

Why Hungary?Awards to United States citizens are for postgraduate study in Hungary. Students can either follow a regular curriculum or spend the year in independent study. There is no restriction on the field of study.

The award covers standard living and study expenses, any tuition fees and roundtrip travel. Although the award is normally for one academic year, the Commission is able to offer a limited number of students the opportunity to extend or renew their grant.

There is no upper age limit and candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.

Initial screening is done in the United States by the Institute of International Education (IIE), 809 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017, USA. The application deadline is October 17, 2011, and the results are usually announced the following spring.

U.S. Senior Scholars
(Researchers, Lecturers)

Why Hungary?Awards to United States citizens are for lecturing, advanced research, and work as Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). A scholar receives a full award, plus a monthly stipend in Hungarian Forints. The grantee will either be provided with housing or will receive a monthly housing allowance, plus an initial allowance to cover travel, excess baggage, settling in, books and services all based on the number of dependents and the grant category.

A scholar must stay for a minimum of three months. Initial recruitment and evaluation is done by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES), 3007 Tilden Street, N.W., Suite 5M, Washington, DC 20008-3009. The closing date for applications is normally August 2, 2011, and results are announced the following spring.
